Learning Objectives and Program Content: At the end of this session, participants will have learned how to:

  • An understanding of the size and scope of the current Federal Budget
  • An analysis of the composition of the budget including mandatory versus discretionary spending
  • An analysis of the current year budget deficit and the resulting growth of the national debt
  • Attempts at reigning in Federal spending
  • Planning for the future including strategies for slowing the growth of the annual budget and repayment of the debt

 

Description:

Please join us for an update on the FY21 Federal Budget. Our speaker -an adjunct faculty member teaching appropriations law and federal budget – will provide background on the composition of the budget, an analysis of the national debt, and a perspective on the future of the annual budget deficit.

Bios:

Johnny Cahn is a retired senior Federal manager with fifty years of experience in the field of Federal financial management and private sector non-profit financial management. He holds a BA from Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York and a Master's Degree in Business Administrations from St. John's University in Queens, NY. Mr. Cahn's illustrious Federal career began at the Veterans Administration and ended at the Pretrial Services Agency, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Cahn is a Vietnam combat veteran, lives with his wife in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and is an adjunct faculty member at the Graduate School USA, teaching Appropriations Law and federal budget courses.
